Before the five journeys begin.
The prologue introduces a world between the visible and the unseen—and a clock approaching midnight.
In the veiled interstices between worlds, where the seen and unseen realms converge, two eternal sentinels stand as divine witnesses to humanity’s end journey.
The Tree of Life stands before them — its roots penetrating the depths of existence, its branches reaching toward divine creation and potential. Against it stands the Spiritual Doomsday Clock, its hand a rhythmic, thudding pendulum hovering a mere ninety seconds from midnight — an outcome of mankind’s hubris. The Earth has been bent to their will, its resources stripped, the very cradle entrusted to their stewardship defiled, just as the Jinn before them once did.
The Nūrāniyān, radiant guardians of the Clock and guides to student souls, gather in solemn assembly. Their glow is etched with resignation as they grapple once again, as they did during the reign of the Jinn, with the timing of the encroaching apocalypse.
Sintra, a guide of profound wisdom, observes the Clock’s hand tremble as autumn winds sweep through humanity’s seasons, stripping away certainties like leaves from branches. Yet where the Nūrāniyān only see an irreversible cataclysm, she sees transformation, a passage to what can be born from the fire. Sintra steps forward with a desperate gambit — to send forth chosen souls and reclaim valuable seconds from earth’s predestined fate. She volunteers her own students, resolute that within their hearts lies the potential blueprint to restore belief in humanity. The Nūrāniyān consent, but the terms are absolute — the souls’ lives must not be tainted by knowing of the trial. Any attempt to influence their choices will accelerate the singular hand of destiny towards midnight. With the veil of deception cast, their journey must be a labyrinth of discovery born of free will.
All the while, the clock ticks on — indifferent, inexorable — towards its final destination. The fate of the Divine Tree, and with it, all humanity, rests now in the hands of five souls.
